Ponta Delgada - Fajã Grande

Ponta Delgada to Fajã Grande through the north and then down the west side of the island, past the 1925 Albernaz lighthouse and the Maria Vaz islet off Ponta do Albernaz. The last four kilometres follow the cliff edge above Fajã Grande, with the Monchique islet, the westernmost point of Europe, offshore. Hard, 12 km, four and a half hours; not for anyone troubled by heights.
