PAN/Açores seeks 2027 budget support for school workers
PAN/Açores plans to seek 2027 budget measures for 107 occupational scholarship workers in Azores schools.
PAN/Açores wants to include funds in the 2027 Regional Budget to strengthen the financial and social security of 107 coadjuvantes de apoio extraordinário working in schools. Pedro Neves, the party's sole deputy in the Azorean parliament and its regional spokesperson, announced the position after the party's parliamentary representation met workers' representatives.
The workers are occupational scholarship holders in a government programme supporting the daily inclusive education of pupils with specific educational needs. Neves said PAN/Açores would carry out a deeper analysis of possible solutions to help value their careers and the people covered by the regime.
PAN/Açores said the workers remain excluded from holiday and Christmas pay. About two years ago, an advance secured payment of the regional minimum wage over all 12 months of the year. The party said the lack of social protection is particularly serious when work stops because of illness, old age or unemployment.
On 12 October, a group of occupational scholarship workers sought meetings with parliamentary parties to present their working reality in Azores schools and proposals to address precarious conditions. Their main demands included pay equivalent to 14 months a year and Social Security registration and contributions for the full period needed for effective protection.
PAN/Açores said the number of these professionals tends to rise alongside growth in children and young people with special educational needs. The party said it has followed the issue over recent years and presented budget initiatives.
