The Regional Government says the guide will help families and health professionals support healthier eating from early childhood.

The Azores will have a "Guia Alimentar para os Primeiros 2 Anos de Vida" to guide families and health professionals towards healthier eating practices from the first years of life. Regional Secretary for Health and Social Security Mónica Seidi announced the measure in Angra do Heroísmo, on Terceira island, during the presentation of healthy-eating measures under the Plano Regional de Saúde 2030.

The measures focus on "Alimentação nos primeiros 1.000 dias de vida". Seidi said the guide will provide reliable information based on scientific evidence.

Other measures include brief-intervention models in Primary Health Care for medical and nursing teams working with pregnancy and early childhood. The regional government also plans technical and nutritional guidance for food in creches and other social services for children up to three years old, alongside professional training and a "Creche Promotora da Alimentação Saudável" seal.

Seidi also highlighted the importance of promoting breastfeeding and recalled the regional campaign "Uma mãe que amamenta não o faz sozinha", held between 28 September and 4 October. She said the aim is to give families information and tools for healthier choices while ensuring professionals and institutions have the conditions needed to support them.

Health promotion, Seidi said, is a way to prevent disease and invest in the quality of life of future generations.
