Ponta Delgada council approves call for 2 million euros a year in housing
The council also plans municipal plots for self-build homes and rent-to-own housing, alongside 102 homes being built with recovery funds.
Ponta Delgada City Council on 28 October approved a recommendation from its Socialist Party (PS) councillors to put more of the council's own money into housing. The vote took place at a council meeting held in the parish of Mosteiros.
The recommendation asks for a specific allocation from the council's own revenue in the 2027 budget and multi-year investment plan, on top of national and EU funding. It sets an initial target of no less than 2 million euros a year, along with medium-term goals for housing.
The council has also announced municipal plots where families can build their own homes, and housing rented with an option to buy.
These schemes add to 102 new homes being built under the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR). They will raise the council's housing stock by 44.3 percent, from 230 to 332 homes.
This site has reported that the regional government plans to continue its housing policy after the PRR: Azores government says housing policy will continue after PRR.
