Ponta Delgada will provide €527,924 in support to 51 institutions in its social response network, including funding for operating costs, projects and facility works.

The Câmara Municipal de Ponta Delgada formalised cooperation protocols with 51 institutions in the municipality's social response network, committing €527,924.

The support was approved under the Programa Municipal de Apoio às Instituições Particulares de Solidariedade Social (IPSS). It includes €161,000 for operating expenses, €289,032 for development projects and €77,892 for conservation or improvement works at facilities used for social responses.

According to the municipality, Pedro Nascimento Cabral highlighted the institutions' role in supporting vulnerable populations and reinforcing social solidarity in the municipality. He said the annual renewal of the protocols reflects the municipality's commitment to the institutions in the social response network and recognises their contribution to intervention adjusted to community needs.

Cabral said coordination between the municipality and the institutions is a determining factor in promoting social cohesion and ensuring support reaches people who need it.

During the last term, the municipal executive revised the programme's rules, increasing funding and broadening support options, including a line for conservation or improvement works. The current rules provide an operating subsidy of €3,500 per institution and support of up to €15,000 for development projects and facility works. The last two categories can receive a 20% increase for responses that include new solutions for people with disabilities, mental illness or dependency situations.

The changes also widened access to organisations that are not formally IPSS but work in the same intervention areas and have equivalent statutes.
