Chega/Açores seeks affordable housing measures for working families
The party wants details on first-home support, controlled-cost construction, vacant properties and rental supply across the Azores.
Chega/Açores has questioned the Regional Government about planned measures to increase the supply of affordable housing for working families in the Azores. According to a party press note, its parliamentary group submitted a request to the Regional Legislative Assembly seeking clarification on the concrete measures the Azorean executive intends to adopt.
Chega said some working families cannot access social housing and cannot afford current purchase and rental prices. José Pacheco, the party's parliamentary leader, said some families earn too much for certain social support but not enough to pay current rents and house prices, and that the situation requires concrete responses rather than announcements.
The deputies asked what programmes the government intends to create, what support will be available for buying a first home, and what mechanisms could encourage controlled-cost construction, recovery of vacant properties and more rental homes. They also asked about making regional land and properties available for affordable-housing projects.
Chega/Açores asked about rent-to-buy schemes, housing cooperatives, modular or industrialised construction, and new partnerships with municipalities and private actors. The request also seeks the expected number of new homes by the end of the legislature, broken down by island and municipality, as well as investment, funding sources and an implementation timetable.
