On Monday 2 November from 18:00, Oficina d'Angra runs a hands-on ceramics session at Casa do Sal on the Prainha de Angra in Angra do Heroísmo, Terceira. Artists Renato Costa e Silva and Kerstin Thomas show participants how to build a small temporary paper kiln, then use it to fire the pieces everyone has modelled during the session, so you leave with something made that day. Places cost 30 € (25 € for members) and must be booked in advance through the organiser's registration form. Wear comfortable clothes in natural, non-flammable fibres such as cotton, linen or wool. Worth it if you like making things with your hands and want a local evening rather than a tourist one.

Casa do Sal is on Estrada Gaspar Corte-Real by the Prainha, Angra do Heroísmo's harbour beach on Terceira, an easy walk from the old town.
