Pico da Praia

A circuit on the southern slope of the Serra de Água de Pau, linking Vila Franca do Campo and Lagoa. It is named for Pico da Praia, a 598-metre hill of pumice thrown out by the Fogo volcano and since cut about by streams, recognisable by its cryptomeria cover. At the spillway of the Central Nova plant a five-kilometre detour on PRC02SMI follows the levada to Lagoa do Fogo. Graded medium, 8.9 km.
