Yellow rain warnings issued for Azores as Hanna approaches

At 09:00 on 30 September, post-tropical depression Hanna was about 1,600 kilometres west/southwest of the Azores. IPMA said the system was poorly organised and weakening.
IPMA issued yellow weather warnings for the Azores on 30 September. Hanna and its associated frontal system were expected to worsen conditions on all islands from late Thursday until Saturday morning.
Forecasts indicate rain that may at times be heavy and may be accompanied by thunderstorms. Hanna was expected to move east-southeast before gradually turning east-northeast towards the Azores, while weakening and losing its tropical characteristics.
IPMA said uncertainty remained over the system's evolution and track. The final intensity and geographic distribution of effects would depend on its position and characteristics on arrival.
Effects were expected earlier in the Western and Central groups. Flores and Corvo are under warning from 21:00 Thursday to 12:00 Friday. Terceira, São Jorge, Pico, Faial and Graciosa are under warning from 21:00 Thursday to 18:00 Friday. São Miguel and Santa Maria are under warning from 00:00 Friday to 10:00 Saturday.
IPMA said it could raise the warning level to orange if conditions justify it. A yellow warning is issued when there is a risk situation for certain activities dependent on weather conditions.
