Ponta Delgada hospital authorised to hire 25 nurses
Azores GuideThe Ponta Delgada hospital has authorisation to hire 25 nurses on individual employment contracts of indefinite duration.
A recruitment procedure for 25 nurse positions has been published on BEP-Açores. Applications are open until 22 October.
Hospital do Divino Espírito Santo said it had authorisation to reinforce its nursing team with 25 new professionals. It congratulated the health and finance authorities for the authorisation.
The hospital said the hiring aims to consolidate staffing, reduce extraordinary-work overload and guarantee the quality of care provided to the Azorean population. The Nursing Directorate said the reinforcement is part of a continuous strategy to consolidate teams and strengthen the institution's care capacity and quality.
The Nursing Directorate highlighted the cooperation and commitment of the Order of Nurses in valuing and safeguarding the profession in the region.
The hospital said its Nursing Observatory had identified an urgent need for generational renewal and stronger operational staffing. It said the nursing workforce remained stable at 671 professionals in the second quarter of the year.
The hospital said effective staff availability was constrained by an absenteeism rate of 18%, parental and breastfeeding rights, and adapted work schedules for occupational limitations. Accumulated overtime and owed rest time and leave exceeded 52,900 hours in June, it said.
More than a quarter of the hospital's nurses are over 50, it said. The hospital said this age profile reinforced the need to rejuvenate staffing and ensure the sustainability of rosters and services provided to patients.
Candidates will be selected through curriculum evaluation of professional experience, continuing training and academic qualifications.
