PCP/Açores warns of higher electricity and fuel costs from October 1
Azores GuidePCP/Açores says a 2.7% electricity rise and higher fuel prices will deepen pressure on households and businesses in the Region.
PCP/Açores said electricity prices will rise 2.7% from October 1, while gasoline will increase by 7 cents per liter and diesel by 5 cents. The party warned that the changes will further worsen living conditions in the Region.
The regional leadership said the Region already faces low incomes, structural inequalities and high transport costs. It warned that fuel increases could put pressure on essential goods, transport prices and production costs, particularly affecting workers, farmers, fishers, and micro, small and medium-sized business owners.
PCP/Açores criticized the lack of measures to effectively counter successive rises in food, fuel, housing and other essential services. It also criticized political choices that keep wages and pensions low, and the absence of effective price regulation and public control measures.
The party, coordinated in the Azores by Marco Varela, said it would continue to fight for measures defending workers and the people of the Azores.
