The Azores government says it is ready to work with the São Miguel blood donors' association on collection promotion and awareness among schools and young people.

José Manuel Bolieiro received the leadership of the Associação de Dadores de Sangue de São Miguel, led by Nuno de Bettencourt Gomes, at the Palácio de Sant'Ana in Ponta Delgada. He highlighted the association's work and thanked it for promoting voluntary blood donation.

Bolieiro said that giving blood is an act of solidarity that saves lives. He also stressed the importance of solidarity and the involvement of Azorean society, saying the association has played an important role in raising awareness among Azoreans.

The regional government said it was willing to collaborate with the association in health by supporting the promotion of blood collection, and in education by reinforcing awareness among schools and younger people. Bolieiro said the government wanted to be a partner in promoting a culture of solidarity beginning in the educational community and extending to society.

During the meeting, the association presented its main activities and challenges, including the need to increase blood donations in São Miguel and its intention to have its own headquarters.
