Azores win Europe’s Best Adventure Destination award for 2026

The Regional Government of the Azores said the distinction recognises the singularity of the Azorean territory, the quality of visitor experiences and the continuous work of public and private bodies on the sustainable enhancement of the destination.

Regional Secretary for Tourism, Mobility and Infrastructure Berta Cabral said the award is another international recognition of the quality of the Azores' tourism offer and of the region's path towards a tourism development model based on sustainability, authenticity and valuing natural resources. She said the award is also an international promotional tool that helps increase the Azores' visibility in source markets, reinforce visitor confidence and consolidate the region's position in a high-value tourism segment.

The Regional Government said the Azores have received the European distinction on different occasions, as well as the Best Adventure Destination in the World award. It said the recognitions have helped consolidate the archipelago's international reputation for activities in contact with nature.

According to the press release, the 2026 award is in line with the Azores Tourism Strategic and Marketing Plan, PEMTA 2030, which identifies Nature - Land and Sea as the destination's main differentiating axis. The plan prioritises international visibility, the visitor experience, improving the offer and establishing the Azores as a sustainable global reference destination.

Cabral congratulated professionals, companies, associations, municipalities and other regional entities that contribute to the Azorean tourism offer and the destination's international projection.
